DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health's Center for Transplantation is among the nation's best in lung, heart, kidney and liver programs. The Center for Transplantation provides a full spectrum of care for the entire transplantation process - from pre-transplant evaluation to post-surgical maintenance - with the highest level of transplantation medicine available.

In concert with clinical providers, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and coordination of administrative functions. Responsible for performing detailed office duties, including (but not limited to) registering patients, clinic and procedure appointment scheduling, authorization, and billing and insurance eligibility and verification. Serves as an administrative lead and key resource for patients, physicians, staff and inpatient/outpatient care service mangers. Functions as an EXPERT for the department as a liaison between clinical and business operations.

Communicates procedures and medical evaluation times and locations with patients and family members as well as physicians, surgeons and nurse coordinators. Maintains and monitors Transplant Database. Performs a variety of other administrative duties in support of patient services. Manages and maintains complex calendars for meetings and appointments. Answers and triages incoming calls. Prepares and distributes clinic notes to referring physicians and medical records. Communicates with faculty, clinic staff, administrators, professional organizations, outside agencies (i.e., insurance companies, community medical groups). Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree or combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year administrative healthcare experience or other relevant experience.
  • Experience with medical/clinical and/or procedure scheduling.
  • Knowledge of medical center processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Advanced skill in MS Office: ability to efficiently draft correspondence in Word, create reports in Excel and develop professional PowerPoint presentations and conduct complex calendaring in Outlook.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills. Skills in problem identification. Excellent ability to multitask with demanding time-frames.
  • Strong skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
  • Superb service orientation and attention to detail. Skills to communicate and influence effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, verbally and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical, specialized, complex office administrative work requiring the use of independent judgment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three (3) years of administrative healthcare experience or other relevant experience.
  • Medical Terminology training or certificate.
  • Working knowledge of Epic EMR.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,396 - $65,396 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.32 - $31.32

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
