Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

IT Security Administrator will perform professional duties related to Information Technology Security Administration (ITSA) and data protection under various operating systems, assist in development of security systems or processes, modify, and maintain IT security systems, monitor security policy compliance, and maintain a reliable and strong data protection environment. Perform all aspects of IT security, including responsibility for installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting any security device or system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist the Security Engineer in improving the information security posture of Bernalillo County by staying abreast of the latest threats, trends, and technology solutions. Recommend design or changes to the information security roadmap.
  2. Provides user training and education on County security policies, procedures, and basic IT security practices.
  3. Ensures that networks and data systems comply with local, State, and Federal mandates/regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CJIS, etc.).
  4. Provides security monitoring, mitigation, documentation, and auditing for compliance and investigative purposes.\
  5. Assist Security Engineer in developing security procedures and policies that are required by the County or driven by technology.
  6. Assists and performs computer forensics as requested by the County legal department, auditors, or other authorized requests.
  7. Installs, configures, and maintains the County's security appliances on various operating systems; configures security systems to ensure network compatibility, application transparency, and to prevent virus, malware and root kits, etc. from disrupting Bernalillo County's network and applications.
  8. Assist in analyzing network traffic to understand data flows and identify abnormal network traffic. Take appropriate action to mitigate any security vulnerabilities created by abnormal network traffic.
  9. Assist in monitoring for security breaches. Investigate security breaches and security incidents. Ensure Management knows as much as possible, as quickly as possible about security breaches or incidents. Closely advise internal stakeholders regarding security breaches or incidents.
  10. Run security scans to identify system vulnerabilities and recommend technical solutions to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  11. Assist the Security Engineer in preparing reports for Executive staff and internal County departments such as HR and Legal, prepares correspondence and other documents; participates on committees and task forces; attends meetings, conferences and training sessions.
  12. Serves on call 24/7 for any security related issue and to pick up and secure desktops that are requested to be secured during off hours.
  13. Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, and four (4) years of work experience in education and IT Security and Compliance. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience totaling eight (8) years may be considered for the above requirements.

Supplemental Information

PREFERENCES

Preferred Certification: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or SANS GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  4. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
  5. Some positions in this classification may require possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain while employed in this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Frequent standing or sitting for extended periods; frequent walking; occasional driving may be required, depending upon assignment; occasional pushing/pulling; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and crawling.
  2. Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  3. Constant use of good overall vision for reading/close up work; frequent use of color perception and eye/hand coordination; occasional use of depth perception and peripheral vision.
  4. Frequent repetitive motion from writing and using a computer keyboard; frequent grasping, holding and reaching.
  5. Frequent hearing/talking to others on the telephone and in person; occasional hearing of faint sounds.
