SUMMARY

The Senior Policy Advisor is a key member of the policy team, reporting directly to the Policy Director. This role involves providing strategic advice, conducting in-depth policy analysis, and assisting in the development and implementation of policies, initiatives, and strategic priorities for Montgomery County. The Senior Policy Advisor plays a critical role in supporting decision-making processes and ensuring alignment with the county's mission and values.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic advice and policy recommendations to the Policy Director, county leadership, and elected officials on key issues and initiatives;
  • Conduct in-depth policy analysis, research, and data-driven assessments to inform decision-making processes and policy development efforts;
  • Collaborate with county departments, agencies, and external partners to identify emerging issues, trends, and opportunities for policy intervention;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policy initiatives and strategic priorities in alignment with the county's vision, goals, and values;
  • Prepare briefing materials, policy briefs, presentations, and reports for county leadership, elected officials, and community stakeholders;
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement processes, including meetings, workshops, and public forums, to gather input and feedback on policy priorities and initiatives;
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels, analyzing their potential impact on county operations and priorities;
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and industry stakeholders, to advance shared policy objectives;
  • Represent the county's interests in meetings, negotiations, and collaborations with external partners, advocating for policies that promote equity, sustainability, and community well-being.

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, public administration, or a related field. PA Bar Association Membership preferred.
  • Previous experience in policy analysis, research, or related fields, preferably in a governmental or public sector setting;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and data;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and audiences;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously;
  • Political acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to navigate complex political environments and build consensus around policy priorities;
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a demonstrated understanding of how to integrate these principles into policy development and implementation;
  • Familiarity with policy analysis tools, methodologies, and best practices.
