Responsibilities

Lab Assistant - FULLTIME 3pm - 11:30pm

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.

The Lab Assistant is responsible for the efficient workflow processes of STAT and outreach specimens submitted to the laboratory for analysis. This associate acts as a resource to all laboratory clients and personnel.

Duties:

  • Able to perform phlebotomy as needed and provides backup as appropriate.
  • Properly processes the quality of lab specimens, and distributes them to the appropriate clinical areas in the laboratory effectively.
  • Assists with creating policies and procedures for the laboratory department when required.
  • Assists in training new and current associates as appropriate
  • Communicates with lab leadership on concerns affecting lab operations, quality and errors.
  • Assists in reconciling lab and pathology charges as appropriate.
  • Monitors pending workload and communicate effectively as needed
  • Pulls reports and faxes them to physicians as requested.
  • Takes ownership of projects assigned and completes in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in survey readiness.
  • Performs test ordering and/or registrations on specimens and patients
  • As needed, assists in the smooth workflow of operations including, but not limited to, typing, maintaining lab and pathology reports, mailing of pathology send-outs, electronic and filing documents.
  • Communicate and handles problems with customers in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Clinical phlebotomy experience; One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

BLS certification. CPT (ASCP) or Medical Assistant preferred.

Must have excellent communication skills, customer service and organizational skills. Must be proficient in using office applications. Medical terminology knowledge is required.
