Position Summary:
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to understanding human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. Using the latest technologies, our clinicians and scientists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases.
The incumbent will work with the team members of the UCI Center for Aging Research in Down syndrome (CFAR-DS) and affiliates to take a contributing role in growing the center infrastructure and maintaining operations with the responsibility to help meet the goals of the Center mission and vision. Within this Center setting, the incumbent will provide administrative support to a complex multicenter NIH funded U19 grant, with individual R01 projects of the Co-Directors and Center Members, with grant submissions, progress reports and grants management. Responsibilities include participation in administrative planning and meetings with the UCI team and the U19 Administrative Core taking place. Ongoing projects include the Alzheimer Biomarker consortium Down syndrome (ABC-DS) and several biomarker and neurobiology studies involving human and animal tissues and participants. The incumbent will be required to work with minimal oversight by the Center Co-Directors to develop and support the Center seminar series, help with website maintenance, design education and outreach materials, participate in outreach activities, connect with community partners on and off campus, and schedule Center meetings. The incumbent is expected to be a contributing member of the administrative team and provide expertise to the team with the Co-Directors. The incumbent will report to Dr. Mark Mapstone and Dr. Elizabeth Head and will work independently to provide support for the daily management of Center activities and research programs. The incumbent will work with the Center Financial Officer, Center Administrator, and with administrative personnel in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Neurology to address complex concepts leading to the success of the Center and NIH submissions. Additionally, the incumbent will assist Dr. Mapstone with administrative responsibilities to support ongoing research and leadership responsibilities. There will be occasional support of the U19 UCI Site clinical team when requests come in for operational support and planning of small events.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $30.44 - $48.86 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $30.44 - $48.86 (Hourly Rate).

Required:
  • Over 5 years' experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Over 5 years' experience with BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to use sound judgement in responding to questions and concerns.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal with students, postdoctoral trainees, faculty, and administrative staff.
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and commonly used computer programs.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and set priorities
  • Computational ability to help in the maintenance of budgets, maintaining accurate records.
  • Strong attention to details. Ability to address complex problems, develop solutions.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a broad range of people with diverse cultures and backgrounds
Special Conditions Required:
  • May be required to travel 1 - 2 times a year locally or nationally
