As part of a diverse and hardworking team of Manufacturing Engineers, you will be responsible for supporting the Final Assembly area for the BE-4 rocket engine. As an Assembly Manufacturing Engineer, you will implement new processes, evaluate process capability, and support transitioning processes to production.A passion for improvement and for rockets is required. In this position you will work on assembly of the final engine in a fast-paced environment. The team is always looking for new ways to improve our process and accelerate manufacturing. As an integral member of the team, you will use data to drive process improvements, relay engineering requirements, and support manufacturing processes. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.
This is a second shift position with a schedule of Monday to Thursday, 3 pm to 1:30am

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. The permanent location of this position is Huntsville, Alabama, and passion for aerospace and our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Define, develop, implement, optimize, and own rocket engine assembly, integration, and test processes.
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware by developing manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing processes: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment.
  • Closely manage build sequence, cost, quality, and schedule of hardware daily throughout the entire manufacturing process.
  • Conduct DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build.
  • Provide data to drive decisions from DFMA and PFMEA studies as well as historical actuals.
  • Perform root cause analysis when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain BOM's, routings and work instructions for engine assemblies.
  • Create/modify manufacturing work instructions to disposition Non-conformances quickly.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing methodology for process development and problem solving.
  • Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment/fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and operate equipment as required.
  • Travel required for training and other support activities.
  • Collaborate closely with internal customers (M&P engineers, test technicians, manufacturing engineers, management, and design/analysis engineers) to define requirements and align tools to meet company objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience with manufacturing engineering
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Can demonstrate creating English work instructions for technicians and inspectors.
  • Must have worked in an electronic MES system making real time redlines.
  • Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed.
  • Open to working extended hours when required.
  • Attention to detail and drive to deliver results.
  • Passion for rockets, space, the team, and our mission is a must!

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Extensive prior experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive.
  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.
  • Understanding of rocket engine components and systems.
  • Work in Creo and Creo Illustrate is desired.
  • Developing new assembly lines and process flows.
