Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as Vice President, Account Management & Implementation!

About the role

Accountable for leading nation-wide efforts related to account management and implementation management, focused on enhancing the customer experience for the Benefits Division. Responsibilities include creating and executing a strategy to achieve profitable, long-term client relationships through; creation of a business-wide industry leading implementation delivery strategy; managing voluntary enrollment activity; delivery of account management and field service operations; development of the tools and resources needed to support those functions; and overseeing a number of support functions (i.e. expense management & budgeting, rewards & recognition, internal incentive compensation, onboarding & technology for employees, remote work strategy, recruiting and sales & service planning).

Direct reports include Regional Account Management leaders, the Implementation Management leader, and possibly certain account management staff. This position will also drive the establishment and maintenance of an effective culture and ensure appropriate management of personnel through; Having a strong leadership team and bench across the organization, including strong succession planning Establishing clear roles and responsibilities Setting appropriate goals and providing effective coaching / performance management Implementing best practices Showing a commitment to our corporate culture to create an inclusive workplace and diverse workforce

What you will do



  • Lead new business implementation efforts nation-wide for the Division Creation of a business-wide industry leading implementation delivery strategy Development of the tools and resources required to deliver on that strategy, including on-going planning for future technology enhancements, coordination with IT and business partners to ensure execution of improvements, engaging senior management in prioritization and status discussions. Ensure execution of day-to-day new business implementation efforts. Drive continuous process improvement efforts by creating feedback loops (both internal and external), prioritizing opportunities, executing process redesign, communication of process changes, and ensure appropriate training/quality assurance solutions are in place. Support pre-sale efforts through personal involvement in customer meetings as needed.

  • Lead account management and field service operations for the Division Creation of a business-wide industry leading account management strategy Development of the tools and resources required to deliver on that strategy Ensure execution of day-to-day new business implementation efforts. Drive continuous process improvement efforts by creating feedback loops (both internal and external), prioritizing opportunities, and ensure appropriate training/quality assurance solutions are in place. Support pre-sale efforts through personal involvement in customer meetings as needed. Design and ensure that proper procedures are in place for all aspects of the service model. This includes but is not limited to advocating for customers on service-related issues Understand the overall administration of new and current customers Anticipate potential obstacles or trends affecting the industry and recommend solutions. Grow premium on existing book of business (upsell/cross-sell); hit or exceed business retention goals.

  • Engage in and/or lead other efforts for the Division, including: Maintain a highly credible professional profile within the industry and keep senior leaders appraised of competitive activity In collaboration with underwriting and other senior management leaders, develops book-of-business growth, persistency and profitability strategies Anticipates business needs in order to facilitate system and workflow enhancements and development. Forecasts the impact of system interfaces with other critical areas of the company, such as Underwriting, Policy Issue, Claims, Finance, and Actuarial Develops strong relationships with key internal and external clients (to include brokers, clients, consultants and internal constituents). Regularly attends customer stewardship meetings, renewal meetings, finalist presentations, etc. as part of the field sales and service team Manages Individual and Team budgets Lead and/or participate in ad hoc tasks, projects, etc. as needed.

Compensation

Base salary:$220,00 - $250,000 plus eligibility for Executive bonuses

Who you are



  • BA or BS Degree or equivalent work experience. Graduate level work preferred and/or Professional Designation
  • 10+ Years field leadership experience, 5+ years experience with managing account managers and other field service personnel
  • Life and Health License
  • Deep and broad industry knowledge. Preferably, 10+ years of experience working with group benefits products.
  • Field sales and service experience.
  • Highly skilled at presenting the company's products and services to the most senior levels at clients' companies.
  • Ability to think strategically, define and articulate the company's practices.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial and sound business instinct.
  • A positive, results-oriented style, evidenced by listening, motivating, delegating, influencing and monitoring the work being done.
  • Ability to establish immediate credibility among his/her peers and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to partner internally and externally to create the appropriate objectives for customers and staff.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Proven management abilities to include training, independent planning, organizing, researching, problem-solving, decision-making and budgeting.
  • National travel will be required.
  • Travel will include but is not limited to travel to field offices, customer renewal meetings, finalist presentations, stewardship meetings and industry conference, and Home Office visits to build relationships with internal constituents.
