Director, Clinical Workforce Training & Education

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The Director, Clinical Workforce Training and Education impacts access to high quality MS healthcare through leadership of a team of staff and volunteers who are responsible for the creation, review and management of Society print and web content - that relates to the MS disease process - including general disease information, symptom management, coping and emotional response to illness, family issues, disease modifying therapies, professional practice content, and research support for both the professional and general audiences. The Director analyzes outcomes data from healthcare professionals and people living with MS to ensure new and existing content is prioritized, relevant and accurate. The Director works collaboratively with the healthcare access team and with other functional teams to provide content expertise and to ensure that content is in alignment with organizational strategic priorities and direction. The Director engages with external stakeholders to ensure that the needs of healthcare professionals and the values of people living with MS are high priorities.

Essential Functions / Responsibility and % of Time

MS clinical workforce expansion ~ 55%

  • Lead outreach initiatives through which health professionals and students are encouraged to train and practice in MS care
  • Serve as program officer of the Clinical Fellowship program
  • Develop and implement educational initiatives to meet the needs of healthcare professionals
  • Develop metrics and track the impact of workforce expansion initiatives

Strategic engagement and communications ~ 25%

  • Collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to identify avenues to attract new talent and train clinicians in MS care
  • Represent the Society on boards, committees and other internal or external groups
  • Engage subject matter experts to advise on training and education initiatives
  • Provide presentations and talks to healthcare professionals, and community organizations to increase public knowledge of MS and the Society

Staff Supervisor - Management Band ~ 20%

  • Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and continued development of direct reports
  • Conduct regular check-ins to monitor progress, provide feedback, and offer guidance and support where needed to ensure staff is fully supported in their role
  • Ensures staff have the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to perform job duties effectively as well as opportunities for professional development
  • Coach and collaborate on goal-setting and professional development plans and conduct formal and informal performance conversations
  • Hold staff accountable to the cultural values of the organization and ensure they follow Society operating principles

Role Qualifications

  • Competencies required are strong skills in communications, relationship-building, influencing, problem-solving and strategic thinking.
  • Must have the ability to build trust with agency employees and build trust and motivate employees and staff and volunteers to perform at their best in order to achieve strategic business outputs.
  • Must have experience leading/facilitating meetings and managing relationships with key opinion leaders.
  • Must have the ability to think through problems, make inclusive decisions, and lead others through complex situations.
  • Knowledgeable of HR Management Fundamentals, specifically employment law, or ability to learn.
  • Knowledge of continuing medical education accreditation processes. (required)
  • Experience developing professional education curriculum. (required)
  • Knowledge and experience of ECHO Institute. (preferred)

Technical Competencies

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society
  • Position will be required to drive/travel on Society business. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. The Society does run motor vehicle checks for all positions which require driving and the applicant must meet the Society guidelines.

  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events, committee meetings, etc

Compensation, Benefits and Company Info:

  • Estimatedhiringcompensation range for this role is $82,000 - $90,000. Final offers are based on candidategeographic location and will take into consideration candidate's career experience. Final offers may vary from this range due to theseand otherfactors.
