Application Services Operations Manager

The Application Services Operations Manager directs and manages application business and supervises operations of assigned branches. This position also manages staff members involved in customer applications.

The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.

What your day may look like



  • Recognizes changes in the market resulting from environmental, economic or competitive conditions and develops sales strategies to meet those changes.
  • Engages in outreach to both new and existing customers with the aim of cultivating new business opportunities while also nurturing and retaining current accounts. .Assigns duties, evaluates performance and motivates and trains the team to optimize the utilization of the locations' resources. Effectively resolves customer complaints, application and service problems, distribution, inventory needs and control and staff issues.
  • Ensures that all sprays are conducted with safety as the primary consideration and that the operation of the equipment complies with applicable federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
  • Uses utmost care to each site prior to spray application to become familiar with all characteristics and conditions. This includes terrain, natural and man-made obstructions, wind turbines, power lines, antennas, guy wires, buffer zones, sensitive crops, dwellings, livestock, domestic animals, vehicles, people, waterways, ponds and aquatic life, beehives, etc.
  • Thorough understanding in assessing weather conditions to determine the necessity of suspending operations when maintaining acceptable conditions is not feasible. This is critical for both equipment performance and application condition and effectiveness.
  • Reviews and follows label instructions.
  • Briefs supervisors and others for expectations and cautions to be observed.
  • Arranges for proper equipment and material security when left in the field away from base operations.
  • Maintains a high degree of proficiency and a thorough knowledge of the procedures and systems of the many types of application equipment.
  • Ensures all employees are properly trained and checks on all aspects of the work environment and procedures.
  • Reviews the previous day's activity for accuracy and completeness. Makes sure those involved are retrained.
  • Reviews and completes all necessary paperwork and records necessary to complete the work assignment and to comply with required records submission to the state.
  • Provides shop over-sight and guidance.
  • Prepares all requests for budget compliance and anticipates needs.
  • Plans and forecasts work schedule for the year.
  • Ensures coordination and cooperation between locations and departments.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by your leader.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.



Education and experience needed for this position



  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Five years of work experience is required, preferably in farming or commercial application business.
  • Prior experience managing employees is required.
  • Prior sales and marketing experience is preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Must have or ability to obtain, a Qualified Applicator's License (QAL) is required.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
