The Staff Accountant reports to the Finance Manager and supports various functions and personnel within the finance department. Responsible for payment transactions from AMC’s huts and shelters, which is high volume during peak season. Responsibilities also include preparing journal entries, invoices, account reconciliations and assisting with monthly closing procedures. Serve in related areas as needed for busy outdoor recreation and education center.

This is a full-time, salaried position with excellent benefits, at AMC’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, Gorham, NH.  Opportunities for remote work exist during the off-season, subject to the discretion of the Finance Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING AT AMC

  • Manage cash/credit card reconciliation of facility reports and process deposits for over 21 facilities.  
  • Process Hut/Shelter/Shuttle credit card transactions.   
  • Assist with daily reservation audit reports and credit card reconciliations.  
  • Back up and support the Accounts Payable team.  
  • Prepare and assist with journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses.  
  • Perform month-end close procedures.  
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable billing and collections.  
  • Support Finance Manager on matters related to volunteer chapters and camps.  
  • Maintain financial records following standard procedures.  
  • Assist with year-end audit as needed.  
  • Additional duties as requested.  

WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or relevant experience demonstrating skills and ability for successful performance of this position.  3-5 years of experience preferred.  
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment, working independently and as part of a team.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.   
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.  
  • Experience using accounting software and reporting tools, or the ability to learn new systems quickly.  
  • Exceptional user of Excel.  


WHAT AMC CAN OFFER YOU

Salary range:  $42,000 - $56,000 / year

We are committed to equitable compensation practices, and we encourage qualified candidates to apply. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
