Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering or a Technical School degree in Electrical Engineering OR a minimum of five (5) years of proven work experience in the maintenance of broadcast studio, automation, transmitter, tower and satellite equipment;
  • Proven experience in planning for and executing remote broadcasts to include training in computer programming;
  • Complete knowledge of broadcast and computer technology theory;
  • Highly skilled in diagnostic procedures;
  • Ability to install and complete repairs on all studio, transmitter, satellite, and computer equipment;
  • Ability to design and wire studio facilities;
  • Knowledge of the technical rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC);
  • Knowledge in the techniques used in recording both small and large performance groups, both in a studio and remote environment;
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated;
  • Ability to be "on call" 24 hours a day to deal with technical problems;
  • The following is preferred:
    • Certification or affiliation with the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE);
    • CC General Radio-telephone Operators License;
    • Carpentry skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring IRSC Public Media is in full compliance with the rules and regulations of both the FCC and the FAA;
  • Ensuring the station operates without undue technical interruptions;
  • Responsible for all matters relating to IRSC Public Media Tower Sites;
  • Supervising the training of all new studio operations personnel;
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned by the General Manager;
  • Serving as the FCC's "Designated Chief Operator" and will be responsible for maintaining all transmitter logs as well as full-filling all EAS requirements.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Adopting and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule for all IRSC Public Media broadcast facilities and equipment;
  • Evaluating, recommending for purchase, installing and maintaining all equipment relating to the radio stations, including automation systems;
  • Designing, implementing, installing, and maintaining computer networks;
  • Recruiting and administering all tower clients, to include negotiating proposed contract provisions, ensuring timely payment of tower rental fees;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of seventy (70) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
