Description
The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a .5 part time nurse (50%) to provide nursing care to students with complex medical needs across the District with primary location at River Bluff as determined by the district nurse and Director of Student Services effective immediately. RN / LPN Tracheostomy experience or certification preferred. May work with students with feeding tubes, tracheostomy, communication, and other complex medical conditions requiring a health care plan.
Essential Job Functions:
Note: Responsibilities will vary depending on the abilities of the student.
1. Work collaboratively with school personnel to provide for the health needs of the assigned student in order to enable a supportive learning environment.
2. Assume responsibility for own professional development and continuing education and contribute to the professional growth of others through in-service and health education activities.
Other Duties May Include:
1. Provide for the physical, educational and personal needs of the student with complex medical needs
2. Responsible for assessment and intervention of complex health and medical needs including respiratory status, seizure management, G-tube feedings, positioning/transfers, student communication, etc. based on the nursing process
3. Coordinate day to day educational program and making decisions about medical, educational and personal priorities in accordance with the IEP and/or IHP
4. Provide emergency care as needed and notify appropriate personnel including parents and health care providers
5. Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as needed or indicated in the health care plan or IEP
8. Maintain, set-up, clean, sort medical supplies and equipment for the student's physical environment
9. Follow district and health services guidelines and emergency protocols for students
Education and/or Experience:
1. RN or LPN licensure in good standing in the State of Wisconsin.
2. Experience in child health care or pediatric nurse experience. Prior experience with children with complex medical conditions/needs
3. Familiarity with the Nurse Practice Act and other pieces of legislation which are applicable to school nursing.
4. Current CPR and First Aid or BLS certification
5. Tracheostomy certification preferred.
6. Valid driver's license
7. Ability to work and interact effectively with others.
8. Ability to independently organize and manage time and resources.
9. Excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community
10. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
11. Must maintain patient confidentiality.
Requirements of Essential Functions:
Constant (66%-100%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, squatting, reaching, and walking in order to perform essential functions.
Lifting: 0-30 pounds constantly (66-100%) 30-40 pounds frequently (34-66%) Over 40 pounds occasionally (1-33%)
Environment: This job primarily operates in a professional indoor environment but may also include some outdoor responsibilities.
