Staff Specialist - Healing Centered Violence Prevention & Response

Under general supervision of the Manager - Healing-Centered Violence Prevention & Response, the Staff Specialist - Healing-Centered Violence Prevention & Response will serve as a primary responder to schools experiencing crisis events and proactively plan for preventative measures aimed to reduce the frequency and severity of crisis events. They will be responsible for coordinating through community partners and related service providers intensive counseling to students who are impacted by crisis events, assisting them with postvention transition by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional challenges that may interfere with the educational process. The Staff Specialist - Healing-Centered Violence Prevention & Response will serve as a leader in guiding school communities impacted by crisis events through healthy, holistic, and effective responses to these emergencies.


Essential Functions



  • Coordinates on-site crisis intervention response, interventions, and follow-up for schools across the district.
  • Works with related services and other agencies to access crisis intervention and behavioral health services.
  • Collaborates with offices across the district to ensure an equity-focused, student-centered response to crisis events.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to resources/services to facilitate educational, mental health, and behavioral needs of students.
  • Assists families impacted by crises in obtaining needed resources.
  • Determines the need for and works with school-based staff at sites impacted by crises to develop and provide parent workshops as needed.
  • Collaborates with program staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning and/or ameliorate interfering behaviors postvention.
  • Conducts home and agency visits related to establishing and maintaining communication and positive connections between school settings and all others involved in student lives around identified issues, as needed.
  • Problem solves and identifies prevention and intervention strategies for student safety and success.
  • Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental factors that impact student learning postvention.
  • Maintains required records and submit appropriate documentation for reports.
  • Completes risk assessments and has the ability to conduct emergency evaluation petitions (EEP) for students as needed.
  • Attends meetings and professional development activities as required.
  • Maintains professional boundaries, code of ethics, and confidentiality.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university preferred. Bachelor's degree in public health, sociology, social work, criminal justice, or related field required. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Two to three years' experience in community organizing and/or violence prevention.
  • Deep knowledge of trauma-responsive practices, healing-centered engagement, conflict resolution and mediation, restorative practices, and/or social emotional learning.
  • Certification in conflict resolution, mediation, restorative practices, trauma informed or healing centered practices preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and demonstrated evidence of the ability to manage multiple projects with high accuracy in a high pressure, deadline regulated environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of effectively communicating to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver persuasive presentations.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point.
