DH OPERATING ROOM PAV L Outpatient Surgery Center occupies four state-of-the-art surgical suites, all equipped with 4K video integration. Our clinical staff members are highly skilled with extensive experience in the surgical field. We specialize in outpatient surgical services for general surgery, dental, gender reassignment, orthopedics and sports, podiatry, GU/GYN, ophthalmology, vascular, pediatric, oral maxillofacial, plastic and hands, and otolaryngology/ear, nose and throat (ENT). Our goal is to provide compassionate, high-quality outpatient surgical care to the Denver Health community. Nurse-to-patient ration is 1:1.

Job Summary

Perform routine and specialized functions relating to technical support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, functions as member of the Perioperative Services team.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide transportation of patients to the Preoperative area and from the PACU area, assist with lifting, positioning and transferring patients as needed. (10%)
  • Communicate with Sterile Processing and circulating nurses regarding the selection and transport of equipment, positioning devices, supplies and instrumentation. (10%)
  • Check, clean, and restock all assigned areas. Return equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and case carts to appropriate locations. Clean and set-up assigned rooms in between cases. (10%)
  • Assist in opening sterile supplies under the supervision of an RN. Assist with timely room turnovers. (5%)
  • Pick cases according to preference cards including all equipment and positioning devices. (5%)
  • Practice standards of OR sanitation and disinfection according to established policies and recommendations. (5%)
  • Keeps an accurate record of patient status and care in accordance with department guidelines and requirements. (5%)
  • Completes checklists, writes clear narratives, and enters data into the eHR as appropriate. (5%)
  • Manages patient load effectively and efficiently. Is able to adjust care given based on volume, acuity, cases, census, and department needs without jeopardizing patient or making patient feel less important. (5%)
  • Able to plan and effectively organize work and establish priorities. (5%)
  • Anticipates needs well and coordinates care with other departments to ensure timely delivery of care and services. (5%)
  • List any specific deliverables or project outcomes that were assigned to the employee within the rating period and assess the quality and timeliness of the work completed. (5%)
  • Seeks additional assignments when volumes are low to ensure maximum effectiveness of department. (5%)
  • Promotes unity and offers support within the work group, between functions, and across departments to accomplish objectives. (5%)
  • Is able to discern when to seek assistance in order to ensure quality patient care. (5%)
  • Is respectful and responsive to patients, families, designated responsible parties, etc. (5%)
  • Practices sound safety and infection control practices according to hospital policies and procedures; identifies safety and infection control issues. (5%)

Education:

  • No High School Diploma and/or No GED

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years 1 year clinical experience in a hospital Required

Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
  • CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - AAMA - American Association of Medical Assistants Required and
  • CNA-Certified Nurse Aide - ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
