Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Crime Analyst will provide tactical and strategic intelligence, analyze crime records, incident, and intelligence reports and criminal behavior reports to identify crime patterns and trends. Coordinate the development of computer programs for research and statistical and inference analysis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain security and integrity of all information contained in the crime analysis unit. Monitor unit operations and make recommendations to improve internal controls and systems as required.
  2. Analyze crime information employing analytical processes and inference and statistical methods to identify crime patterns, crime suspect correlation, crime trends and crime forecasting.
  3. Monitor, collect, collate, evaluate, and analyze crime data for trends and patterns; disseminate information relevant to crime and criminal activity impacting the County and related geographic areas.
  4. Prepare oral briefings, training reports, written reports and develops factual recommendations of operational prevention and control of criminal activity.
  5. Coordinate with other department personnel to develop analysis of trends to determine effective allocation of personnel and resources.
  6. Prepare presentations regarding analysis of crime statistics, trends and applications of information to department operations for review by department management for decisions concerning the allocations of resources and personnel.
  7. Coordinate efforts with various law enforcement agencies and educational institutions in the analysis and development of crime statistics; respond to inquiries form other law enforcement agencies and the general public regarding crime statistics and related information.8. Provide training and coordinate work efforts of others assigned to crime analysis unit.
  8. Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Criminology or related field and two (2) years of related work experience in planning, criminal justice, or research methodology. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Essential job duties are performed indoors in climate controlled environment.
  2. Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.
  3. Works alone primarily, with or without directions.
  4. Works with a group at times and with a select team at times.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Telephone, calculator, computer, fax machine, and copy machine are used in performance of essential job duties.
  2. Various forms of paperwork are handled in performance of essential job duties.
