Summary of Job Function: The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. Assures safety in practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge by communicating with and utilizing resource persons/programs available. The Mental Health Screener individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs. Works in harmony with other staff members of interdisciplinary team, assisting the Patient Care Manager and others as needed, to achieve best service possible to patients. Responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate support personnel and for consistently setting and evaluating priorities. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc

Job Qualifications: BA/BS degree in related field, plus three years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, one of which is in crisis setting or enrolled in a Master s program with two years of prior experience in a psychiatric setting, one of which is in a crisis setting. Must possess the ability to work in stressful situations. Must possess and maintain a valid N.J. State Driver s License. BLS required. It is preferred that individuals hired be eligible to obtain their Temporary Screening Certification Number upon hire and must obtain their permanent number with one (1) year.
