NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Broadcast Engineer based in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.

The Broadcast Engineer manages the day-to-day engineering duties of live and posted shows, in partnership with a team of engineers. The Engineer works in a post/live facility, serving both internal department and external clients in the production of studio show and remote, live events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage the day-to-day engineering duties on live and posted shows, use broadcast expertise to set up shows and perform troubleshooting as necessary

  • Oversee maintenance of engineering equipment in partnership with senior engineers and department leadership

  • Maintain NASCAR Productions engineering shop and inventory; manage equipment repairs; partner with vendors on maintenance issues and service

  • Execute engineering projects and upgrades within the facility; working independently, utilize judgment and technical knowledge while maintaining a keen eye for detail

  • Use engineering expertise to configure and patch connections between microphones, amplifiers, fiber transmitters, video equipment and IP networks; test equipment prior to broadcast

  • Perform parts inventory, cable pulling, equipment installation and integrations

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the NASCAR Productions control rooms, studios, and other parts of the Broadcast facility

  • Maintain a working knowledge of switcher programing, audio console programing, intercom programing, and other necessary live broadcast equipment workflows

  • Partner and communicate effectively with Broadcasting team to troubleshoot and rectify engineering issues and broadcast interruptions

  • Provide technical support for the IT and other Engineering Departments

  • Travel: less than 10% including some weekends

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school and a minimum of four (4) years of broadcast engineering and transmissions experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with satellite provider, television station, and/or remote mobile unit company preferred.
  • Proficient on Company-provided hardware and software. Proficient in both PC and MAC platforms.
  • Able to to identify and troubleshoot broadcast issues and problems that arise in a fast-paced live production environment.

  • Basic understanding of IP networks as well as baseband and IP broadcast infrastructure

  • IP and 2110 broadcast knowledge will be a significant benefit but not required

  • Strong IT base as it relates to the broadcast world to support a file-based workflow and editing environment

  • Understanding of signal flow and troubleshooting electrical connection issues on the Broadcast level

  • Specific knowledge of RTS Intercom systems, Evertz or similar HD Video and audio routers, knowledge of Grass Valley production switchers

  • Basic understanding of how IT interacts with broadcast areas and ability to work through basic system issue

  • Knowledge of broadcast equipment such as scopes, routers, camera systems, multi-viewer monitor systems, EVS, etc.
