Position Summary:
The university is looking for a business development manager for licensing to manage its portfolio of patents with the mission of transferring it to commercial companies for the benefit of society. In this position, embodying a unique overlap of technology, marketing, business, and law, the selected candidate will represent NJIT to successfully market the university's technology inventions.
The successful candidate will need to be a highly motivated self-starter, who can juggle multiple assignments simultaneously. A strong acumen in selling and marketing is necessary as well as the ability to interact with a wide range of constituents, of which include faculty, students, industry executives, entrepreneurs, attorneys and venture capitalists.

Essential Functions:

  • Advancing the development of groundbreaking technologies by fostering strategic relationships with entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and industry partners.
  • Assessing commercial potential of new technologies.
  • Managing a broad intellectual property portfolio.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for the marketing and licensing of technologies to commercialization partners.
  • Negotiating license and collaborative research agreements.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Business development experience with licensing and technology is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience involving technology development and commercialization or business development.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English, are essential, as is a talent for negotiation.
  • The ability to diagnose complex business, interpersonal, and inter-organizational issues and deal with ambiguity is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree is strongly preferred.
