LPN Research Program Coordinator
The Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit is seeking a LPN Research Program Coordinator who will be responsible for providing quality care, conducts experimental research sessions, and

performs data handling functions as required by protocol.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Completes all required documentation according to established guidelines and time frames and properly documents in medical records and research binders.
  • Maintains emergency and rescue medication inventory on a monthly basis and completes other inventory of supplies as assigned.
  • Conducts interviews with potential research participants to ascertain drug histories, medical information, and witnessing of consent procedures.
  • Assists medical staff as needed in physical examinations and completion of the patient history.
  • Phlebotomy- peripheral IV catheter line for multiple blood draws.
  • Schedules research participants, producing calendars for the subject's interview, training, and session days and assists in the telephone screening process.
  • Confirms the availability of the necessary test area facilities and coordination of any additional protocol personnel.
  • Conducts data collection tasks including but not limited to collection of urine, blood, and saliva samples, electrocardiograms, administration of self-report questionnaires, direct observation and rating and recording of subject's condition, monitoring of physiological measures, collection and measurement of pupil photographs.
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to customer requests.
  • Provides timely feedback in a clear and concise manner. Communicates relevant research participant/patient changes to appropriate staff.
  • Uses professional judgment in providing information based on specific situations and is sensitive to individual and organizational concerns.
  • Follows appropriate channels and keeps appropriate staff informed of relevant issues and events.
  • Works effectively and compassionately with research participants that may be impaired. Anticipates participant needs and initiates action to meet those needs.
  • Treats research participants of diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds with courtesy, respect, and caring behaviors.
  • Effectively coordinates and completes multiple assignments.
  • Utilizes resources in a cost-efficient manner and identifies ways to improve efficiency and outcomes of work standards.
  • Attends study team meetings, as needed.


Compliance
  • Adheres to safety procedures and follows standard precautions at all times.
  • Become knowledgeable of Good Clinical Practice and BPRU's standardized methods of data management.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) activities, as needed.
  • Assists in the identification of quality improvement (QI) activities. Other duties as job dictates.
  • Knows, understands, and abides by the Johns Hopkins University and BPRU policies and procedures and seeks clarification as needed.
  • Adheres to federal confidentiality and HIPAA regulations. Application of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) in a research setting and ensures information is kept private and confidential
  • With assistance, develops and implements new policies and procedures as required.
  • Inputs data into electronic data capture (EDC) applications such as required by protocol.
  • Identifies areas of development and seeks opportunities for personal and professional growth and fulfills
  • continuing education and competency requirements. Consistently updates individual education record.


Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Exchanges appropriate and professional information with peers and staff. Recognizes and supports the skills of others in a manner which fosters collegiality and team work.
  • Analyzes and operates equipment and performs required tests with the highest degree of accuracy.
  • Assists in ensuring routine equipment maintenance is completed as indicated by manufacturer's recommendations and JHBMC policy, maintains equipment competencies and scheduling of routinepreventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Other duties as job dictates.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • High School Dducation is required and completion of an accredited LPN School
  • Licensed Practical Nursing licensure in the state of Maryland required. Completion of the JHH credentialing process to include verification of CPR certification is required prior to start date. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience.

  • Ability to concentrate and demonstrate good attention to detail under stressful circumstances.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with participants and staff.
  • Able to function in a high-pressure position while managing task for multiple protocols.
  • Ability to distinguish between low and high priority activities.
  • Demonstrates initiative and is self-accountable.
  • Experience with industry sponsored research, electronic data capture systems, source documentation, and GCP preferred.
  • Skilled in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher on Apple systems.
  • Ability to meet competing deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to make decisions and act independently while keeping research team informed.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.


Physical Requirements:
  • Able to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods.
  • Able to reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required, able to manipulate objects with fingers rather than entire hand(s) or arm(s), e.g., use of computer keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.

Starting Salary Range:$21.64 - $29.78/hr (commensurate with experience)
