Instructional Technologist
We are seeking an Instructional Technologist who will provide primary instructional technology support for online course and eLearning creation and related resources including audio and video components, which may include academic courses, self-paced learning modules, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Works with team members to provide support on course delivery platforms (i.e. LMS, 3rd-party MOOC service providers).
  • Consults with faculty on the use of instructional technologies for activities such as evaluation, presentation, audience response, live meetings, streaming video, and learning management system (LMS) tools.
  • Assists in effective implementation of instructional technology tools within learning management systems.
  • Consults with instructional designers and/or faculty on the planning, use, and development of self-paced learning objects such as stand-alone eLearning training modules and on-demand MOOCs.
  • Assist with developing courses, MOOCs, and online learning content for various audiences per design plans/consultation discussions in the LMS and/or using other course authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot LMS issues, assist in the creation of documentation and user guides, and test system functionality.
  • Supports faculty and staff in the application of technology to the curriculum.
  • Advocates use of pedagogical strategies and educational technologies to faculty and staff.
  • Creates documentation on various instructional technologies that support the instructional mission of the school.
  • Provides faculty and staff training on instructional technology tools and their effective implementation via group and one-on-one training sessions.
  • Assist with developing, maintaining, and updating academic courses, training materials, and resources in various delivery modalities.
  • Ensure compliance with established accessibility (ADA/508/UDL) standards as well as university/division standards.
  • Designs, develops and delivers training workshops to introduce faculty, TAs, and students to the emerging instructional technologies and their effective application in teaching and learning.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or program/course assessment/evaluation required.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience, and additional experience may substitute required education to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field.
  • Five years experience working with an LMS.
  • Advanced proficiency with Canvas as a subaccount administrator
  • Thorough knowledge of online instructional design, pedagogy/andragogy, emerging technology, and distance learning best practices desirable.
  • Knowledge of best practices for the effective implementation of instructional technology tools in higher education.
  • Familiarity with best practices in the use and development of video in higher education distance learning, including digital video editing tools.
  • Two years course authoring experience using Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline.
  • Two years of experience developing interactive training materials and learning objects using Adobe Creative Cloud or Articulate 360.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience working closely with higher education faculty members.
  • Expertise in multiple learning management systems.
  • Experience with video management platforms.
  • Expertise with video editing, image manipulation, and screen casting.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with SCORM including: exporting, importing, and configuring.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Support/troubleshoot various educational and communication technology i.e. Turnitin, Zoom, Teams, Kaltura, Office 365 products, VoiceThread, Qualtrics, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Adobe Connect, Poll Everywhere, RPNow, Respondus, Examsoft, Adobe PDF, etc.
  • Triage and troubleshoot to faculty and student questions, concerns, and inquiries.
  • Experience using Help Desk platforms.
  • Project management and reporting experience.

Starting Salary Range: $24.87 - $34.19/hr (commensurate with experience)
