The Division of Student Affairs at James Madison University invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Student Leadership & Intercultural Experiences in the Center for Multicultural Student Services (CMSS). This position reports to the Director of CMSS and specifically supports student success by assisting the department in achieving its mission to educate and advocate for racial equity, intersectionality, and effective allyship. CMSS strives to support an inclusive campus through dialogue, leadership experiences and cultural celebrations beyond the classroom that honor and value diverse identities. Overall Departmental Functions: Collaborate with director on strategic planning, visioning, and decisions on the leadership team in order to reach departmental goals. Develop, administer and evaluate programs and trainings for students that promote an understanding of and appreciation for the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), directly in line with the department mission and the division of Student Affairs. Manage and oversee the allocated operational budgets for programming areas. Contribute to the annual report process and departmental program reviews. Represent department at conferences and official programs and events in a professional manner. Supervision: Provide direct supervision and support to the Assistant Director for Multicultural Programs and Greek-Life (ICGC) and Graduate Assistant for Student Leadership Development. Oversee all areas of the Inter-Cultural Greek Council (I.C.G.C.) in accordance with university, National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) and The National Asian Pacific Islander American Panhellenic Association (NAPA) risk management policies and compliance requirements for culturally-based fraternities and sororities. Student Leadership: Responsible for designing, leading, managing and evaluating student leadership opportunities for student leaders and organizations under the CMSS umbrella. Responsibilities require use of student development theories, leadership principles, unifying and fostering a sense of empowerment. Oversee, manage and abide by university guidelines to maintain compliance for all CMSS student organizations. Works in partnership with the office of Student Activities and Involvement, UREC and Duke's Lead. Lead Student Leadership Summits each semester, Multicultural Student Leadership monthly meetings with executive board leaders, annual Leadership Awards Banquet and provide departmental sponsorships for financial resources with student organizations. Serves as departmental lead for the annual Donning of the Kente graduation ceremonies/reception for fall and spring semesters. Intercultural Student Learning Experiences: Create, design, develop, and implement CMSS multicultural experiential learning trips that offer opportunities for students to explore multiple ethnic and cultural identity groups and perspectives; one each semester. Responsible for coordination and travel to student leadership conferences including the African American Student Leadership Experience (AASLE), East Coast Asian American Student Union Conference (ECAASU) and the US Hispanic Leadership Conference (USHLI). Assessment: Lead, manage and oversee all assessment efforts in collaboration with SA Assessment Committee and in partnership with CARS for student leadership and intercultural learning experiences. Departmental Collaboration: Promotes an environment of collaboration and partnerships with other departments and serving on various committees as it relates to diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI). Knowledge base in the areas of multicultural awareness, social justice, advocacy, and support to all spheres of diversity and identity-based groups at and who are coming into the university.
