Software Systems Engineer - Advanced Development Programs

As part of a small team you'll support the development, integration, verification, validation and execution of flight software for the Lunar Permanence Program. We're looking for a systems engineer with excellent experience in control systems methodologies and/or methods for verifying and validating safety critical software. You'll be able to influence system-level aspects of the software design, ensuring that we're building a streamlined and verifiable software solution. A successful candidate has the skills to work at a system level as well as dive into technical areas to resolve issues as they arise.

This role reports to the Systems Engineering Capability Section of Advanced Development Programs and directly supports the Lunar Permanence Program. Blue Origin is self-funding rapid development of multiple in-space flight systems - over a range of sizes, propellant types, and technical challenge. Our versatile spacecraft will serve a wide variety of customers and missions, starting in just three years. A hardware-rich prototyping approach allows rapid design/build iteration. On these unique programs, you will experience the full lifecycle from formulation to flight in a short time, while achieving historic milestones.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace engineering or related technical discipline
  • Relevant experience with software and/or control systems
  • Experience with software requirement engineering
  • Experience with software test planning
  • Experience with software test procedure and test cases development
  • Experience with formal qualification testing
  • Experience with software test automation
  • Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices in mission/safety critical systems
  • Experience in the full lifecycle development of aerospace systems, including requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operation
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • *Support up to 10% domestic travel to engage key partners and support training
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Successful candidates will typically have 5+ years of systems development and project management experience
  • M.S. or PhD in computer science, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Experience with requirements development/management tools; DOORS, DOORS Next Gen and lifecycle management (PLM) and/or data, Windchill
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Demonstrated experience with MATLAB and Simulink and auto-coding methods
  • Experience developing software in C / C++ and Python
  • Hands-on experience with embedded software testing, test development, and certification
  • Experience with aerospace vehicles and model-based design (MBD) methodologies leading to certification of human spaceflight systems
  • Strong understanding of aerospace safety-critical systems development

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Estimated hourly wage (Colorado only): $110K- $168K
