Quality Services Data Analyst

Position Summary:


Responsible for tracking and analyzing quality data that supports quality management functions to aid in safety, quality, and performance improvement projects. Through the use of a variety of reporting sources, the Quality Services Data Analyst will utilize analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to fulfill internal and external data reporting needs. This position supports the development of standard departmental reporting for operational planning; independently formulates methodologies to achieve results; coordinates the ongoing assessment and monitoring of clinical and operational outcomes. Business knowledge is applied to data output and analyses to identify trends, anomalies, and to facilitate process improvement as needed. Acts as a strategic resource for analyzing external data and reports in order to facilitate broader understanding of current and projected future performance for executive leadership strategic planning. Interprets and summarizes external technical specifications to provide internal stakeholders with pertinent information regarding requirements and potential impact to the organization and facilitate internal tracking of relevant data to promote performance improvement.


Qualifications:


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science or Related Field

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant reporting experience with Master's degree OR five (5) years of relevant reporting experience with Bachelor's degree. Reporting, information technology, or data and operations management experience. Experience with clinical audits/data abstraction, electronic health records, and other sources of clinical data preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Advanced computer skills, including Windows-based applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, etc.), other online collaborative tools, and reporting tools (e.g. Access, SQL server tools, SQL Business Intelligence Tools). Highly developed ability to identify, research, analyze, and develop innovative ways to streamline work flow and data processes. Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills with a proven ability to interpret data, identify trends, and anomalies. Understanding of databases, query language, and concepts. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to learn and adapt to change in order to further department and organizational goals. Proficient aptitude to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and complete projects by specified deadlines with a high level of quality, accuracy and clarity. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Must be detail oriented with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


Essential Functions:

  • Improve quality and infection prevention data efficiencies to make data readily available for improvement opportunities to be shared with quality staff, committees, practitioners, clinical staff, and leadership.
  • Participate in Quality Services projects and tasks to promote efficient use of resources, identify and recommend action to improve and fix data operations and processes.
  • Collaborate with performance improvement teams and quality committees both internal and external to the department to provide technology expertise, gather and analyze data; include technical specifications alignment and ensure data quality integrity. Must take appropriate steps to ensure data sources and output are accurate.
  • Manage data gathering and timely submission of data for regulatory reporting and benchmarking purposes (e.g. Merit-based incentive Payment Systems reporting, Inpatient Quality Reporting, etc.).
  • Incorporate quality, infection prevention, performance improvement and patient safety principles into assigned activities and workflow.
  • Communicate information from primary and secondary quality metrics to committees, clinical staff, practitioners and non-physician leadership to aid in the process of quality strategy development, decision making, and process improvement.
  • Coordinate, gather, and alayze data from internal and external surveys related to quality and patient safety.
  • Develop and maintain advanced knowledge of various data and regulatory reporting areas, programs and databases in order to serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Utilize databases and/or software to generate routine and special request reports as requested/required. Coordinate and support audits, collect statistical data and analyze routine and special data for variances and/or opportunites to improve outcomes.
  • Analyze data with statistical methods, interpreting the results, providing a written summary of data analyses in order to identify and promote performance improvement.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications to ensure accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Validate source data to ensure accuracy and alignment with internal and/or regulatory measure specificiations.
