Position Summary

The primary function and role of the tutor is to provide students with academic support relative to their assignments in the Education courses.

Job Functions

  1. Conducts group and individual tutoring sessions.

  2. Assists instructors in facilitating student learning.

  3. Shares learning techniques with students that will enable them to help themselves.

  4. Meets with students periodically to assess progress.

  5. Assigns students specific responsibilities between tutor sessions.

  6. Refers students to a variety of materials and resources.

  7. Attends tutor training and professional development activities.

  8. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Education or a related field

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • In-depth subject area knowledge.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of diagnostic/prescriptive learning.

  • Ability to evaluate students' work and promote independent learning.

  • Ability to interact positively with students in individual and group settings.

  • Ability to build students' confidence and self-esteem and lower their anxiety.

  • Willingness to pursue CRLA tutor certification, if applicable, and participate in professional development.

  • Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately and concisely, as well as expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or complicated spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $16.71 (not ot exceed 19.5 hours per week)

Work Schedule & Conditions

PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.

Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.

Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
